Mario Merz - galerie piece unique - LA DÉCLARATION DES DROITS DE L’HOMME ET DU CITOYEN

Mario Merz

Mario Merz’s work is an occasionnal work, conceived in homage to the French revolution in occasion of its bicentenary.
However, it is not a commemoration, even symbolic; there is no trace of the revolutionary spirit except in the ubiquitous energy of the neon writing: a luminous body which slips and crosses the opacity of the canvas breaking its paralysis. Under this flow of energy – which sends us back the idea of blood but which is also one of the essential components of Merz’s whole work -, each element of the installation does not count essentially for its internal meaning but for the relations it establishes with the others.
The proliferation of senses accentuates the non-conformist dynamism of the work and contributes in debunking any possible commemorative sense.
