James Brown

James Brown’s works are based on a logic of self reflexion or, let us say mor simply that it sits on a territory delimited by the reflexion of Art and its objective bases. The pictorial themes used are « easy », immediately recognizable; they belong to the pictorial tradition and, precisely in virtue of this « familiarity », are deprived of evidence, like an object which, having been consumed by an excessive use, would have lost not only its function but its original structure too.
The artist reflects on this dissipation of the contents, on the disappearance of the link between work and text, but paradoxically his reflexions take shape and become a red linen covering partially the painting.
